Safe Means of Access
- The contractor must have adequate numbers of Fall Arrestors (to save workers falling from high heights, of different sizes viz. 6 m, 20m, etc
- Contractor to provide adequate and safe means of access and exits to his workforce at all work places, at all elevations.
Using of scaffolding members (by avoiding a ladder) for approaching to high elevation shall be
strictly prohibited as it leads to unsafe condition.
- Suitable scaffolds shall be provided for workforce for all works that cannot be done safely from the ground.
It is advisable that ladders shall not be utilized for climbing carrying materials in hands. All ladders,
platforms, safety belts and safety nets should be inspected regularly and records should be maintained.
and damaged items shall immediately disposed off.
- Working platforms of scaffolds shall be provided with toe boards at 15cms to prevent materials from falling down.
- Contractor to provide safe means of access at all working platforms or at other elevated working places.
Every ladder shall be securely fixed. It is recommended not to use single portable ladder over 9m in length.
It is advisable for ladders that are upto 3m in length the width between side rails in the ladder shall in no case be less than 300mm.
It is recommended that for longer ladders this width shall be increased by at least 20mm for each additional meter of length.
It is advisable that Steps of the ladder shall be uniform and shall not exceed 300mm.
- It is highly recommended .to provide working platform and gangway along the side of pipe rack.
Under no circumstance the contractor workforce should step on pipes at pipe racks.
