HAZOP STUDY

HAZOP’s is an abbreviated form of Hazard and Operability Study and is a critical examination based on the supposition that a problem can only arise when there is a deviation from what is expected. The systematic studies of the P&IDs by a group of engineers to identify any possible hazards and operating problems that may occur due to deviations from the design intention. The HAZOP study identities the possible causes of such deviations, analyze adequacy of protection systems provided against identified consequences and actions needs to be taken, if necessary, to mitigate the hazards or operating issues. The HAZOP study is carried out by application of guidewords to identify deviations from design intention.
